Fine Art and Antique Catalogue Sale - 5th June 2008Following the successful sale of the consignment of antique furniture which once graced the rooms of a Hall in Nidderdale, in Morphets Spring Catalogue sale in March, the second consignment to include the paintings and ceramics are now to come under the hammer in the June Fine Art and Antique Sale. The collection which has been in store for nearly twenty years includes 18th and later Chinese and Japanese ceramics with several pairs of large size vases in Chinese famille rose, a pair of 18th century famille verte salts, a large quantity of mainly 18th century blue and white plates, bowls, a pair of Wucai vases and Imari ware. Amongst the English ceramics is an extensive service of Chamberlain’s Worcester painted in the pattern known as Bishop Sumner or Bengal Tiger pattern, illustrated here, dating from circa 1800, which rarely comes on to the market in such quantity. An 18th century Worcester tea service painted in the manner of James Giles with exotic birds and insects within reserves against a blue scale ground, circa 1770, will also come under the hammer. Amongst the works of art from the Hall, is a pair of early 19th century blue John marble vases, measuring 16cms high, illustrated here, which are expected to realise £800/1200 A pair of 18th century South Staffordshire enamel and gilt metal candlesticks painted with vignettes of classical ruins, military encampments and forts within rococo cartouche against a white ground, 23cms high are expected to realise £800/1200. Entries from other private clients include a large collection of mainly 19th century English silver ware, antiquarian and later books and amongst the more unusual items, a brass ship’s pedestal telegraph! The auction will also include period and later furniture, clocks, oil paintings, watercolours and prints, jewellery and watches, objets de vertu, works of art, boxes and treen and collectors items.
